Following Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ Spending Review last week, we have had a look at some of the key elements for the UK Construction industry.
We have identified areas that will benefit from this spending and how we at Playle & Partners LLP are well placed to help our clients make the most of it.
🏗️ 1. Major Boost to Affordable & Social Housing
- A £39 billion investment over 10 years to deliver 1.5 million new affordable homes—the biggest such injection in half a century
- An additional £10 billion via Homes England to unlock even more housing projects
- Encouraging private sector engagement through financial stimulus (estimated at ~£4.8 billion from 2026‑27 to 2029‑30)
Playle & Partners LLP
We are experts in delivering affordable homes for Public Sector and Social Housing Providers across London and the South-East. Our knowledge in delivering affordable homes on difficult sites within urban settings is critical in enabling this target to be achieved. We are experienced in all types of Traditional and Modern Methods of Construction, including Modular, Pods and Cross Laminated Timber, etc. For every type of project, we manage these from inception including feasibilities, site remediation and enabling works through to completion on small scale schemes to larger programmes of work.
We also have extensive in-house Planning experience having prepared and delivered Planning submissions on several projects for our clients.
Recent examples of our multi-disciplinary teams providing affordable homes is Suffolk Court and Braemore Court on behalf of the London Borough of Redbridge. These projects are delivering a combined 48 properties, offering much needed affordable homes within the Borough.

🔥 3. £1 billion for Dangerous Cladding/Remediation
- Within the £39 billion ten‑year housing investment, more than £1 billion is specifically ring‑fenced for building safety and remediation and an extra £950 million allocated for temporary accommodation that often includes fire‑safe housing provisions.
- The Remediation Acceleration Plan introduces firm deadlines:
- All 18m + buildings under government schemes; fully remediated by end of 2029.
- All 11m+ buildings: either remediated, have a completion plan, or be liable for penalties by end of 2029
