Amazing pictures and drone footage from Knights Brown Construction of the recently reopened and refurbished Maidstone Bus Station, for which Playle & Partners LLP provided Project Management, Employer’s Agent, Quantity Surveyor and Principal Designer services.

The site is located underneath The Mall (Chequers) Shopping Centreand takes the form of a two-way “tunnel” which runs underneath the car park levels and above the River Len and the underground weir all located in Flood Zones 2 and 3. Buses enter from either from King Street to the north or Romney Place to the south.

We had to liaise throughout with multiple Stakeholders such as Sainsbury’s, Kent County Council Highways, Arriva, to name but a few to deliver the scheme including temporary relocation of the bus services during the refurbishment works.

We also assisted Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) and Capital &Regional’s Legal Teams with the preparation and agreement of the Building Licence between these two Parties for the Works, management, and maintenance thereof.

As part of the scheme wasto involve the local community, we assisted Ann-Marie Langley the Arts & Culture Officer at MBC with the inclusion of anArt Mural. This was achieved by match funding via the Arts Council and was designed by local artist Graham Upton and was undertaken by him and a group of local teenage girls.

The delivered scheme has greatly improved the aesthetics, the visibility and lines of sight, accessibility, natural ventilation and provides improved value to users for this main transport hub for Maidstone Town Centre.
