The project improved aging tourist infrastructure and visitor experience whilst making the existing buildings more efficient and welcoming. Investment also improved staff operations on site for coastal officers, cleaning staff, RNLI , paramedics and police, including improved welfare and first aid space. A key addition to the proposals was space to create income generation for Rother District Council whilst providing additional benefits.
One of the core ambitions of the project brief was to regenerate sustainably. The proposals included retaining as much of the existing building and embodied carbon on site as possible. The new building utilised much of the existing structure whilst creating a new piece of infrastructure to last for years to come.
Playle & Partners worked closely with the design team to ensure the full implications of being a busy seafront location were captured within the cost plans and tender sums. These included ensuring that there was suitable provision of temporary toilets, allowances made for monitoring of the ever -evolving sand dunes, and that cost plan options were provided for the various timber options and their suitability to survive the harsh weather conditions.
