Southmead Primary School

Playle & Partners were commissioned to redevelop the existing ASD base within the early years areas of Southmead Primary School. The purpose of the works was to provide the school with a more effective and larger ASD/SEND base.

  • Client:
London Borough of Richmond & Wandsworth
  • Services:
Architecture, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Principal Designer
  • Value:
    £220,000

The resource base at Southmead Primary School was one of the longest-serving units in the borough, however, given the increasing requirements for additional SEN school places, the capacity was to be increased from 18 to 26 pupils.

The works consisted of providing specialist ASD/SEND areas such as an Occupational Therapy room, a soft play room and a Sensory Room in addition to general refurbishments to the existing classroom and breakout areas. Using a bi-fold door and different flooring materials, learning zones were delineated providing flexibility for use throughout the school day.

Playle & Partners were involved in the scheme from RIBA Stage 1-7 providing architectural, quantity surveying, CDM and project management roles.
