This project consists of a retrofit scheme to an existing occupied college building.  The college consists of an 11-storey tower that was constructed in the 1970s. This scheme focused on improving the condition of the existing tower, plinth and mechanical and electrical services with an emphasis on improving the environmental performance, teaching and learning environment, reducing ongoing running costs and resolving Health & Safety issues relating to the tower envelope and its elements.

The works include over-cladding and improving the environmental and thermal performance and the existing substructure and superstructure has been retained. Fire safety barriers have been installed into the façade as part of the works.

P&P as CDM Consultant worked with Willmott Dixon and the design team to identify hazards associated with the existing building and obtaining the necessary site investigation surveys to allow the safe planning of the works, working with the team to address the complicated buildability risks associated with the scheme, including the lifting procedures for the heavy pieces of glazing and utilising a crane for elements of the project.
