Eastbourne Crematory

With very little changed since Eastbourne Crematorium opened in 1960, the main aim of this project was to lighten and modernise the appearance of the main Chapel and Entrance Vestibule through some key client-led internal refurbishments. Playle & Partners LLP were appointed as Quantity Surveyors on this project which took five weeks to install.

Services

Works included the removal of the old dark wood paneling and dated fittings which was updated with clean fresh walls and light oak furnishings. Beach seating, curtains and lighting were also renewed along with the creation of a new ramp leading to a raised platform to allow for wheelchair users to reach the lectern.

Improvements to the heating and ventilation systems were also made with more efficient radiators and remote control window openers installed. Upgrades to audio and visual equipment were additionally made to allow for video and photographic funeral tributes.

All works were sequenced to minimise the time the Chapel was closed to its service users. For activities with a longer lead time, materials were procured and stored onsite in containers ensuring a continuous work-flow.
