Architecture and Interior Design

Playle & Partners LLP have an Architecture team focused on delivering a high-quality service with exceptional commitment to our Clients. At the forefront of our ethos is a passion for improving the built environment. We are a highly motivated, close-knit and creative team with a wealth of knowledge, experience and talent. Our design ambitions are to improve people’s communities, encourage sustainable practices and create spaces to enhance living and wellbeing.

The philosophy for our enthusiastic and dedicated team is to communicate, engage and collaborate throughout the design process with our Clients, Stakeholders and end users. We believe our pro-active methodology and our inclusive decision-making process enables imaginative, creative and positive design.

Our strength as a team, is the exceptional skills and broad range of experience held by each member. Being a part of a multi-disciplinary practice, we have close working relationships with the other departments that allows immediate dialogue between teams. This collaborative approach to every project promotes a sharing of knowledge and lateral thinking to the clients brief and informs the Architectural design decisions.

Due to the multi-discipline business structure, our Clients benefit from the added value from the Architects who have a better understanding of project budgets, health and safety risks and building maintenance. As a practice we have the resource capacity to provide large and complex schemes whilst continuing to be an approachable and friendly team.

A key characteristic is the project delivery and management experience we have. We utilise these skills alongside an energetic drive for good design to deliver successful projects for our Clients. We have experience across all RIBA Stages in multiple types and scales of projects, construction methods, contract types and procurement routes. Our work with public and private sector clients ranges across projects in education, social housing, community spaces and mixed-use developments. We work on new build and refurbishment schemes utilising the most appropriate approach and method of working for the Client requirements.

Our Architects have a strong interest in sustainability and improving our built environment. We are drawn to projects and clients whose agenda and interests are to enrich lives through better design. We are part of the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge and committed to sustainability goals.

We collaborate regularly with other practices and disciplines and in this pursuit we are strong advocates for utilising BIM processes that will support the team and Client with increased efficiency, value and accuracy on projects.

As a practice we are committed to developing, supporting and encouraging education, diversity and equality in our professions. Our Architect’s share their knowledge and experience as RIBA mentors to our students and show how the responsibilities of an Architect can shape everyone’s lives.

Working for both the private and public clients, our team have a broad range of experience in the following sectors:

Education – our success in education projects depends upon a complete understanding of the sometimes conflicting needs of our client groups – principals, governors, teaching staff and pupils – and meeting them to the highest standards. Our wide ranging experience in schools, colleges, and nurseries helps us to add value at every stage, taking responsibility for the successful, timely and cost effective completion of the projects we are involved in. We have designed a number of classroom extensions, a new nursery school, new reception areas and a number of fabric repairs projects and kitchen refits.

Housing – Our team has over 30 years experience of working on the design of new and refurbished housing. At Playle & Partners, we have undertaken a wide range of both new build and refurbishment projects for a number of Housing Associations and private clients.

Community Buildings – for many types of community building, we are experienced with working with a wide range of people, particularly at the early stages, and ensuring that all views are noted and reflected in the design brief and ultimately in the completed building. Our designs have included extensions to a community centre, extensions and refurbishment to church halls, improvement works to a number of public libraries and the conversion and refurbishment of a disused library to a community youth facility.

Listed Buildings – successful design for listed buildings requires special skills. We are well used to working with Planning Officers, Conservation Officers and English Heritage in order to negotiate the optimum solution for our clients. Much of our work in this area has concentrated on public buildings including extensions, improvements and refurbishment of both listed schools and libraries. Our approach is to maximise the use of space within the structure, and when extensions and interventions are required, to carry them out in a clean and modern way which does not detract from the character of the listed building.

Designing for the Disabled – for many years we have specialised in designing and overseeing the construction of adaptations for the disabled. Working closely with our clients and their medical advisors, we take responsibility for the total project from feasibility through to managing the construction work involved. In addition, we have designed a number of purpose built houses and bungalows specifically for wheelchair users.
