The project was a design and build contract and the principal contractor was Willmott Dixon. Playle & Partners LLP worked with Willmott Dixon to deliver the principal designer role for this project.

Within our role we undertook design reviews, issued comments to the design team and coordinated health and safety risks associated with the design, including buildability and future access and maintenance risks. This information was treated as a live document throughout the project, with remaining residual risks incorporated into the health and safety file.

Attendance at design team meetings was key particularly as although works had started, the design continuously developed evolving for the various phases of the project.

This project involved specialist designers such as pool specialists to ensure the design complied with the necessary legislation. Evaluation of maintenance items including the changing of light fittings both within and above the pool were discussed to ensure the design had catered for the safety of those maintaining these areas in the future.

The end user was also involved in these discussions to ensure their needs were also considered during the design stage. In the final stages of completion, we liaised with the contractor over essential health and safety file information including details of any residual hazards, hazardous materials and built drawings etc.
